Charlie               Villanueva,               the               talented               yet               enigmatic               power               forward               for               the               Milwaukee               Bucks,               is               closing               in               on               his               dream               to               represent               Republica               Dominicana               on               the               basketball               court.

Although               he               was               born               in               New               York,               Villanueva's               immigrant               parents,               Roberto               Villanueva               and               Dora               Mejia,               hail               from               the               Dominican               Republic,               according               to               his               website,               cv31.com.

Move               to               DR               Needs               Approval               by               International               Basketball               Federation
               Competition               in               international               basketball               is               regulated               by               FIBA,               the               International               Basketball               Federation,               who               establishes               and               governs               the               regulations               for               player               eligibility.

He               is               a               spokesperson               for               the               National               Alopecia               Areata               Foundation               and               supports               NAAF               through               the               Charlie               Villanueva               Foundation.

Charlie               V               aims               to               slam               dunk               childhood               bullying               through               his               
               foundation,               an               ambition               stoked               by               frequent               teasing               about               his               disease               as               a               child.
               Basketball               Brings               Opportunities               to               Villanueva
               "Basketball               allowed               me               to               express               myself               in               a               way               that               created               value               and               purpose               for               me...we               were               all               the               same               on               the               basketball               court               and               the               only               way               to               distinguish               one               another               was               through               our               talent               abilities               and               not               our               looks,"               Villanueva               states               on               his               website.

"Now               the               taunts               of               my               early               childhood               drama               have               turned               into               admiring               cheers               as               I               have               found               success               in               becoming               a               professional               NBA               athlete."
               Dominican               Republic               Team               May               Include               Big               Name               NBA               Players
               No               doubt               Villanueva               will               help               to               bring               success               to               the               DR               national               team,               currently               ranked               31st               in               the               FIBA               World               Rankings.

Other               NBA               players               who               may               comprise               the               next               DR               team               include               Al               Horford               of               the               Atlanta               Hawks,               Trevor               Ariza               of               the               Los               Angeles               Lakers,               and               Francisco               Garcia               of               the               Sacramento               Kings.
               This               sleek               and               often               dominating               Buck               wingman               may               become               qualified               to               take               part               in               the               2009               FIBA               Americas               Championship               for               Men               taking               place               in               Mexico               at               the               end               of               this               summer.

The               DR               hopes               to               do               well               in               order               to               qualify               for               the               2010               World               Championships               and               the               2012               Olympic               Games.
               "Twitting"               Charlie               Stays               in               Touch               With               Fans
               In               mid-March,               Charlie               V               gained               national               attention               by               "twitting"               his               fans               during               half               time               of               a               basketball               game               in               which               he               was               playing.

His               team,               the               Bucks,               reprimanded               him               for               taking               out               time               to               send               a               "tweet",               suggesting               that               he               wasn't               focused               in               on               the               game               enough.

Villanueva               proved               Milwaukee               wrong               by               playing               a               strong               second               half               and               leading               his               team               to               victory               against               the               World               Champion               Boston               Celtics.
